Last week Motorola announced its new device with Android operating system, the Droid 2.

The smartphone is sold with a price of $ 199 with a two-year contract.

The second one is replacing the Droid, launched in late 2009 and was the first smartphone from Motorola Android 2.0.

Now, the second uses Droid Android 2.2, newer, and comes with QWERTY keyboard, 5 megapixel camera and 3.7 inch screen. The device also has software Swype for predictive text with touch screen, and can be used as a wireless access point to share the 3G connection. Additionally, Android 2.2 allows you to run Flash content on mobile.

For now, Droid 2 works only on the Verizon Wireless network in the U.S., which uses a CDMA network.  It is also expected that Motorola may bring new GSM Android phone however, company has not commented on it.

Verizon announced that it is accepting early update for its users who have at least 6 months left in the existing contract period.

  • Motorola is on a tear. What is has so cleverly done is maintain momentum with the Droid by releasing D2. In doing so it is making sure existing customer who like what they have but need an update have a place to go. They don’t need to completely change everything, everything just gets better. For those needing a larger display, the DX is there waiting.
