Motorola Droid X manufacturer has released the source code Droid X under the open source license. The code is available to any developer to download. The code, which is 280MB, doesn’t seem to create a lot of excitement in the development community as only 1407 copies of the code were downloaded until August 1, 2010. Even the discussion forum on the website has not attracted a single post.

It is expected that Motorola will also release the code used on Motorola Droid 2 after the release date of the device. Droid 2 is expected to hit the U.S. market sometime this month.  Motorola Droid 2 is the successor of original Motorola Droid. The mobile phone maker didn’t release the code used in original Droid.

Package of the code has been named as “DroidX OSS code” and the website says that it is the release 1. Motorola doesn’t provide any support on the website.  “This site does not provide any SDKs nor general purpose developer support for the DROID X.” the Motorola open source website says.
