Google celebrates Buckyball Anniversary with Google Doodle

September 4th, 2010GoogleIf you are one of the billions of people who used the internet this morning then you must have noticed the new Buckyball Google Doodle on Google.com. Today marks the 25th anniversary of buckyball discovery .
Google has replaced the second “O” of the “Google” with Buckyball on its home page. The replacement took place in the mid of night between Friday and Saturday. Google traditionally celebrates major historical events of the world with its Google Doodle. Google has honored Barcode, Pac Man Game many other things with its unique way.
According to Wikipedia article on Fullerene, Spherical fullerene is called as Buckyball. The structure of Buckyball is close to that of Graphite. Buckyball molecular is composed of 60 carbon atoms and it looks like a football.
The nice thing about this Google Doodle that moving the mouse over Google logo rolls the buckyball.
